The University of Nevada, Reno has sent out a campus-wide apology regarding a Halloween costume of an off-duty police officer.

Campus Reform reports the Assistant Vice President and Director of University Police Services at the school, Adam Garcia, claimed one of his officer’s was “mocking another who has taken advantage of his constitutional right to protest.”

“Police officers are held to a higher standard and denigrating another—on or off duty—is insensitive for its lack of respect and understanding on how others may negatively view their actions and may be impacted,” Garcia claimed.

He then noted that students have been concerned about their safety due to the “current social and political climate,” and “behavior such as this magnifies unsafe feelings and lack of trust in police, especially when the individual is responsible for the safety of all members of the university, regardless or [sic] color, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or religion.”

The officers “racist portrayal” of Kaepernick featured a fake nose, wig, 49ers jersey and, most notably, a sign which read “Will Stand For Food.”

According to Campus Reform, Garcia went on to bemoan how difficult it would be to “regain the trust” of students. He added that his office will attempt to regain that trust by “continued education, training, and conversation.”

“At a time when officers should be heightened in their attentiveness to perception by our community, this act seems extremely out of touch with those sentiments and not [sic] is not within the spirit of the department’s community oriented policing philosophy,” Garcia added.

Although Garcia condemned the officer’s actions, he will not be punished.

“For those who have seen the Halloween costume of one of our officers apparently mocking a citizen who has chosen to take advantage of his constitutional right to protest, I offer my sincere apologies,” Garcia concluded.

I think they secretly like the literal butt hurt.

  • JustAMiddleAmerican

If he had dressed mocking Trump, he would have been a hero. There is no end to the double standards.

    • If he dressed supporting Trump, he’d be a hero to all the conservatives on campus studying economics and business.

      • PunJabber

If he’d dressed supporting Trump, he’d be a villain for triggering a whole bunch of you.

        • Ted Cummins

GOPers have thick skin. I doubt some dude dressed up like Trump would puss anyone off.
Late night TV has pretty much numbed that sense.
          Thank God for American Pickers

          • Bugsy Gunther

Hahaha no. Neither side has thick skin, just different things they get triggered about

          • PunJabber

I don’t follow your logic. Lefties are the ones triggered by anything Trump, as we have beaucoup (rhymes with “boo-hoo”) evidence. I wasn’t including Dante with GOPeople.

      • DaisyToo

If he’d have dressed as Trump, Antifa would have maimed him.

      • JustAMiddleAmerican

Dante, just stop. You have no argument against the double standard that you know exists, so you opt for a completely hypothetical “…but, but, but, conservatives would like it if…!” Troll level = noob.

        • PunJabber

No, Dante is in Circle Six, where the infernal hypocrites afterlive.

  • claudiusxiii

    Violence is the answer.

    • So the big & the bad will always win.

      • Jeff

Nope. there are plenty of “good ” people who are more than capable of extreme levels of violence put to the right cause. You just don’t know about them because they are just sitting back waiting on the right time.

  • I dressed up like a cop once. (oops.)

  • bookish1

    Oh, FFS!
    That is a hilarious costume.
Maybe he shouldn’t have posted it wherever he did.
I don’t understand why everybody wants to live their entire lives online.

    • PunJabber

Because it’s the only place that will let them in?

  • Steve O

“regain the trust” of student? If I were a student there I would be highly offended.

Kap’s protest are on behalf of those who are victims of police brutality.
The vast majority of such cases occurs during the lawful arrest of suspects who actively resist.

What is the university saying about its students? That they believe they will fight a policeman while being arrested? Is that their opinion of the student body?

    • myddrinemrys

No, no, no. You have the narrative all wrong. Freddie was a gentle giant and had his hands up. Ignore the pile of evidence and testimony that proves otherwise.

In fact, any evidence that shows that anyone was actively resisting is merely an indication of the systemic racism inherent in the police system, especially since they developed out of the slave catchers in the south.

Nevermind the historic evidence of a constabulary stretching all the way back to ancient times. That is vicious lies spread by the man to continue his racist agenda.

      Or something.

  • DaisyToo

Hey, who needs Commie Re-education camps when this country already has loads of them?
Bonus for the Commies? They’re paid for by We, the Taxpayers.

  • Ted Cummins

Wait till PETA sees his lady friend.

    • DaisyToo

      Ha! Good one.

  • Ryan Benford

Again with this ‘Constitutional right to protest’. College students who believe this untruth are going to have a very hard time in the working world.

Freedom of speech applies only to government restriction and freedom of speech has never meant freedom from consequences.

  • Druz Oster

why is it racist, he didn’t go in black face, I personally think it was funny!! get a sense of humor and enjoy the holiday, stop seeing racist in everything…geez

    • Terrence Jeffrey Johnson

He should have…..Hillary did at a Halloween party in college will Bill dressed as his hillbilly self.

Besides, Al Jolson made millions of dollars that way

  • Nelda Seidel

Get over yourselves and start behaving like adults instead of two yr. olds!! LOL!

  • Kim

I just don’t get what was so awful about it. The costume is hilarious! Halloween is about dressing up as characters we normally couldn’t be. Many costumes are funny and could be considered “making fun of” one type of character or another. I just don’t understand why people keep getting butt hurt over the stupidest things! It’s called HUMOR people! Learn how to laugh about shit. The world needs more humor.

    • Rob

There’s nothing awful about it. Not only is Kapernick a public figure but he’s a controversial one at that. More than fair game to be mocked with a halloween costume. The Left is just angry that 1) the police officer was having fun 2) the off duty police officer didn’t go in black face and get fired F them and 3) Hilliary lost. They need to grow up. If the officer went as Trump or Rush Limbaugh they’d have no problem.

  • Rob

Too bad. If only I knew dressing up like a s-itty ex-football player would hurt so many sjw’s feelings, I would’ve done the same.

  • Johnny Thorne

    They hate blacks.

    • Terrence Jeffrey Johnson

      Who?

  • Bemyguest

Well if they don’t “punish” him then it is just the University answering speech with speech.

I have no problem with that even thought their response is quite lame.

  • disqus_X4zDidVpdI

Well done officer, keep up the good work.

  • Terrence Jeffrey Johnson

    HAHAHAHAHA!!! Priceless…..

  • That costume is classic! Wish I’d thought of it.

  • You noted “sic” twice regarding the man’s quotes but somehow misspelled “officer’s” in the same article. Tsk tsk.

    • milonews — “… claimed one of his officer’s was …”

      Ya, it should’ve been officers.
Lesson learned: misspell more often and we get to hear from Father MILO more often.
Now what could be wrong with that.

      • At least you’re having better luck with me than the gentlemen below

        • thanks for not noting the “here” rather than “hear” in my repost. That was classy. Too obvious for someone as bright as you.

          • I’m less hard on folks like you than the editors of my name site.

  • dannilo

hillarious costume, millenials need to fucking grow up sensitive dickheads everywhere

“Police officers are held to a higher standard and denigrating another—on or off duty—is insensitive for its lack of respect and understanding on how others may negatively view their actions and may be impacted,” Garcia claimed.

So from this we can gather that Garcia believes that

[1] Police officers have no real right to protest

[2] Denigrating one’s fellow citizens as racist is acceptable for those not “held to a higher standard.”
