Harvard Law School’s Dean of Students views the “It’s Okay To Be White” stickers that have been popping up on campus as a “provocation.”
Dean of Students Marcia L. Sells denounced the placing of “more than a dozen” handmade “It’s Okay To Be White” stickers at the school’s Wasserstein and Hastings Halls this week as “provocations intended to divide us,” according to The Harvard Crimson.
According to the publication, the stickers began as a campaign on 4chan, which called upon students to put up posters and stickers carrying the message in their area on Halloween night. The Harvard Crimson reported that the originator of the post hoped that the “credibility of far left campuses and media gets nuked” following the reaction of social justice warriors who would undoubtedly see the message as problematic—as if it is not okay to be white.
Suggestions to place the stickers in question made their rounds on social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook on the days leading up to Halloween, and many took up the proposal by placing the stickers in various places throughout the country.
“It seems likely that these anonymous postings, made in the middle of the night, were provocations intended to divide us from one another,” wrote the Dean of Students in an email sent to Law students.
“HLS will not let that happen here,” Sells added. We live, work, teach, and learn together in a community that is stronger, better, and deeper because of our diversity and because we encourage open, respectful, and constructive discourse.”
The Crimson Harvard goes out of its way to refer to a vandalism incident in 2015 where pieces of black tape were placed over the portraits of black professors at the Law School, spurring “a broader campus dialogue about race on campus.” Those particular stickers were likely a hoax, according to The College Fix, much like other so-called “conversation starters” planned by campus leftists to incite “dialogue” about “social justice.”
As for the “It’s Okay To Be White” stickers, the reaction on social media—and on campuses like Harvard Law School—only prove their point.
