What is it like when you step off the plane in Pyongyang?

Michael Malice is one of the few Americans who knows.

The North Korea expert sits down with MILO to discuss the pervasive warmth of the North Korean people, Kim Jong-un’s respect for Donald Trump’s verbiage, the threats of nuclear war, and the potential for regime change in the hermit kingdom, all from his new book, Dear Reader.

So, er, if Kim takes ‘Trump’s bellicose rumblings towards N Korea’ seriously; if they ‘talk the same language’, how will that work to the US in particular’s, the world in general’s or N Korea’s people’s advantage? Will it make Kim more determined to create nukes capable of hitting the US? Is that a good thing? Did talking peace ‘get us to this crisis point’? Or is this one of NK’s periodical demands for attention, aimed at achieving a reward for sabre rattling? Perhaps Trump refusing to play ball, so to speak, will push Kim further into dangerous territory (confrontation)?

Malice’s comments on comments that make crazy comparisons to North Korea, seem somewhat extreme. Is that an aftereffect of living in Kim’s malevolent mind while writing Dear Reader?

For mere verbal faux pas, Mike Huckabee (compared Bloomberg’s soda ban Kim’s dictatorship) ‘should be taken to a cannon and shot into the sun’ and Libertarians (who said N Korea is a weed-smokes paradise) ‘are beyond reprehensible’.

Malice says the rest of the world (or most of it) is heading in a liberalising direction, yet the mindset that say speakers are ‘beyond reprehensible’ or ‘should be shot..’, however much said in jest here, epitomise the censorious mindset that’s sweeping across the West. Rather than becoming more freedom loving Westerners seem set on undermining and further restricting the most fundamental freedom: of speech.

There’s a gulf between N Korea’s concentration camps and mass censorship of all but Kim approved content on the one hand, and college campus speech codes on the other. But the way the West seems headed, means that gulf maybe lessening more than people lazily realise?
