Local authorities in Bondi – a suburb outside of Sydney, Australia – have banned the construction of a Jewish synagogue over fears that it may become a target for Islamic terrorism.
According to News.com.au, the synagogue in question was to be built “just a few hundred meters from Australia’s most famous beach.”
Both the Waverly Council and the Land and Environment Court apparently deduced that crowded area + Jews = Islamic terror and, as a result, have prohibited the synagogue’s construction.
“Jewish leaders are shocked the decision appears to suggest they cannot freely practice their religion because they are the target of hate by Islamic extremists,” News.com.au reports.
The outlet goes on to quote Rabbi Yehoram Ulman as stating, “this decision is unprecedented.”
“Its implications are enormous. It basically implies that no Jewish organization should be allowed to exist in residential areas. It stands to stifle Jewish existence and activity in Sydney and indeed, by creating a precedent, the whole of Australia, and by extension rewarding terrorism.”
North South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies chief executive Vic Alhadeff, meanwhile, is quoted as stating, “it’s a very sad day for Australia if an established community, which needs a house of worship, is refused permission to build it because of fear that others may pose a threat.”
“This simply shows how we’re all losing our freedoms. Those who want us to be afraid are winning, and this ill-conceived judgement represents a dangerous precedent.”
According to News.com.au, the proposed outfitting of the synagogue with setback buildings and blast walls as anti-terrorism measures actually helped convince local authorities that construction should not move forward.
“The proposed development should be refused as the site is not suitable for the proposed synagogue use as the Preliminary Threat and Risk Analysis relied on by the Applicant raises concerns as to the safety and security of future users of the synagogue, nearby residents, motorists and pedestrians in Wellington Street and the physical measures proposed to deal with the identified threats will have an unacceptable impact on the streetscape and adjoining properties,” Waverly Council’s ruling is quoted as stating.
News of the ruling is not sitting well with a number of internet users.
Are they going to ban gay clubs? Churches too?
They should deport the migrants that refuse to respect the existing culture.

Why not ban expensive cars/jewelry/clothes so people are less likely to get robbed? Same logic.

So they're winning even without blowing anything up! Fear of an attack can be as damaging as an actual attack in many ways. ????????????
