Marvel Comics is investing in an influential new target market: queer Latinas. Apparently, they’ve have become such a huge demographic they now warrant their own super hero.

America Chavez is a new diversity heroine introduced earlier this year by Marvel and she has all the usual suspects in the leftwing media gushing.

HuffPost calls her a “queer, foxy, badass, hard femme Latina” who “totally knows how to channel her inner Beyoncé.”

Vogue describes her as a gold-hoop-wearing Queer Latina who “travels back in time to punch Hitler in the face.”

The outlet goes on to state that the story will “follow the 18-year-old student at the fictional (and well-named) Sotomayor University (seriously), as she fights aliens and protects her fellow classmates from injustice.

Wait… the queer Latina social-justice superhero will be ridding the country of aliens?

Marvel first introduced the Queerto-Rican superhero in 2011 as part of the Young Avengers series.

Apparently the scrappy America Chavez became so popular that she now warrants her own comic book.

So to write the new series, Marvel enlisted the talents of author Gabby Rivera, who coincidentally describes herself as a “round, brown loverboi [sic] living in Brooklyn, NY.”

Rivera’s debut novel, Juliet Takes a Breath, is—oddly enough—about a “messy, over-emotional, book nerd, weirdo, chubby brown” queer Latina on a path of sexual self-discovery.

Rivera explains her vision of the character thusly, “Exploring America’s Latinx identity is going to be one of the most thoughtful elements. She’s just ‘Latinx,’ and like, what does that mean? Beyond being a gender-neutral term for Latina/o, what does it mean to identify as such?”

Perhaps it means the start of a new Marvel series: LatinX-People.

Marvel’s decision to invest in America Chavez comes following widespread reports that the company’s emphasis on diversity in its comics has actually been hurting its sales performance.

“What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity. They didn’t want female characters out there. That’s what we heard, whether we believe that or not,” said Marvel’s VP of Sales David Gabriel at a retailer summit earlier this year, as previously reported.

“I don’t know that that’s really true,” he added. “But that’s what we saw in sales. We saw the sales of any character that was diverse, any character that was new, our female characters, anything that was not a core Marvel character, people were turning their nose up against.”

Gabriel’s words caused quite a stir among SJWs, prompting him to issue a follow-up statement declaring, “we have also been hearing from stores that welcome and champion our new characters and titles and want more. They’ve invigorated their own customer base and helped them grow their stores because of it. So we’re getting both sides of the story and the only upcoming change we’re making is to ensure we don’t lose focus of our core heroes.”

I can feel the level of suck without ever picking up an issue.

I like how they pair the video with light music that screams “I’m a girl exploring my identity”. Like, a Mexican superhero version of Lizzy McGuire or something.

The funny part about your comment is that if you look up the writer, she is pretty much that description. I think she made a superhero she wanted to fuck.

      • Tobi Alafin

        Lol.

Marvel couldn’t pay me to read their shitty comics.

  • Typical

Man, I hope disney shutters the comic book wing of Marvel before my stock loses more value.

  • Cecile Charles

From the imagery she looks bulky and average so what is the super about that? Comics are not supposed to reflect life they are supposed to be above life and fantastical.

  • SAK68

Series is destined for the discount boxes in the back of the store.

  • The R.H. Deplorable

welp.. good thing i gave up on comics a good while back when they first were infected. and of course it’s not Marvel’s fault for making terrible sjw comics its white America’s fault for not buying.. liberal logic 101 right there

    • Ben Kuyt

Just stay away from Marvel properties that try to be hip and cool.

Stick with DC, actually. Or Dark Horse.

Destined to be the Atari “ET” video game of the 2010’s.
In 30 years we will find all these diversity comics buries in the desert too.

  • Reasonable_Democrat

Comic book readers don’t hate diversity. They hate badly written comics. Here’s the newsflash: SJW writers typically aren’t good writers and these comics didn’t sell, not because the characters were minorities, but because their authors couldn’t write.

    • They have a strong tendency to ink up insufferable Mary Sue characters, and to cast aside verisimilitude and nuance in favor of ham-fisted sermonizing.

…They’re preachers invading a storytelling medium because nobody wants to listen to them.

    • AverageJoe1987

We also hate classic characters being thrown away solely to replace them with a 1-dimensional PC character to piggyback off the name and costume. We also hate Captain America being made into a Nazi because Marvel is upset that people want the white guy back.

Translation from Marvel’s VP of Sales David Gabriel: “Our readers tell us they hate this forced diversity push on them. And our sucky sales prove it. But we don’t believe what our readers & the numbers tell us…and we know what’s best for our readers…so get ready for more of this divine SJW stuff.”

    • The Abstract

Gold Medal in reading between the lines.

Could not have said it better myself.

  • The Jokester

OK…..I probably will get flak for this but I have to say at least the made their own character instead of turning Spider-Man into a gay black kid or the Hulk into a Asian kid or Thor into a woman.etc etc. AT least this way they aren’t sh!tting on original creations by turning someone Captain America into a black anti-American, this way when people solidly reject their lesbian Latina they will get the message that no one wants to be pounded over the head with their stupid agendas. I used to buy 40$ of comics every week. Over the last 8 or more years I don’t think I’ve bought one new comic. That’s how much I hate the direction of the SJW invading my hobby.

    • I thought Thor was a woman recently. I didn’t read any of the news stories about it.

      • The Jokester

Thor himself is still a man but Jane Foster now holds the tile of Thor along with the hammer. Iron Man gave his armor to a black woman who now is called Iron-Man I think. An Asian kid is now the Hulk or at least while Bruce Banner’s Hulk is somewhere. Last I heard Steve Rogers is not Captain America, the Falcon who is of course black is now “Captain America” The white washing or feminizing of classic characters is ridiculous. I gave up reading comics many years ago when they started making their agenda priority over telling stories and providing decent art

  • The ‘mainstream’ comic institutions are terminally infested- anyone who wants to read something good needs to start digging for gems among webcomics.

    • Tobi Alafin

And manga. Manga is still sane.

  • Snowdrop

Catering to the Latin ‘chip on shoulder’ market.

  • Michael Allen

I really liked the idea of the character, and the design looked pretty good, but the comic itself was TERRIBLE! Seriously, apparently Marvel not takes place on an Earth where there are no superpowered white males. The writer dishes out loads of anti-white hate speech on her Twitter, and Marvel does not seem to care. Also: The writer doesn’t speak Spanish (Despite being a PROUD BROWN QUEER BOY/GIRL THING), so all the bits in Spanish are in terrible Google-translate Spanglish.
The art is also (mostly) terrible. A bunch of undefined, poorly inked borders throughout.

  • Agent 99

    Seriously: WHY?

  • Well if America Chavez and Wonder Woman “pair up” I might buy an issue…………

  • Is a border wall America Chavez’s Kryptonite?

  • LazyReader

She hails from another dimension..she’s not even from Earth-616

  • TAZ

She’s not technically even human. How can she be Latinx?

    • Michael Allen

Latin-X sounds like the South American X-Men team.

  • Jesse James

SJWs. That strong acid that completely dissolves anything it mixes with into irrelevance, nothing, and possessing a horrible taste in the mouths of sane people everywhere!

  • Memphis Reigns

    Watch this motherfucker tank

  • DLNoob

Well the Latin”X” and SJW community has some things to argue with this.

    1) They didn’t spell her name correctly, Amerika.
    2) What honorable SJW would name a character after the most oppressive, hate filled country in the world?
    3) Trumps hate is what she is really fighting.
    4) The aliens she fought symbolized the white European invaders of the USA.

Though, I do wonder if she chows down on her republican classmates as well?

    • TheGhostWhoLurks

She probably rapes them, justifying it because “Nazis deserve to be raped.” -_-
      #antifa

  • Cynewulf

In a sane world, Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta, the two white dudes who created the character, would have been laughed out of the room when they first pitched this idea in 2011, followed by a swift kick in the pants to help them along their way.

  • AlexCorvidae

This forced diversity crap in comics needs to stop. It panders to people who don’t read comics in the first place. If they did, they would realize that there have been numerous characters from DC and Marvel that are diverse, it just wasn’t made a big deal of because they were characters with actual stories not a cardboard cutout without substance to get virtue signaling points. Storm, Miles Morales, Cloak, Steel, Luke Cage, Batwoman, John Stewart, Thunderhawk, Falcon, Black Panther, Oracle…the list goes on and on.

  • Ben Kuyt

The sad thing is that no one cares about comic books, it’s such a niche field. These characters will eventually get terrible movies because they’re vapid, shitty, personality lacking characters. Her only defining traits are her race and her sexuality.

Batman’s defining traits are his brain, his strength, his want to do good because he had been wronged, his compassion for other good humans, etc. Superman’s defining traits are his understanding that the people on his adoptive planet aren’t as powerful as he is and he wants and needs to protect them. The Incredible Hulk, who most people think is just a massive smash machine is actually about the duality of man and the Jekyll/Hyde dynamic in everyone.

What makes this character want to do good in the world? Other than someone else telling them to. If anyone’s read the trite garbage, please inform me.

  • anna

a hard femme Latina who knows how to channel her inner Beyoncé.
Yeah because when I think super hero and comic books, that’s the kind I want to read…….
I thought they had learned their lesson when the BLM comic book barely sold

  • María León

Why everything SJW touch has to be related to sex?

  • María León

If anyone is reading this, they should write about what happened last month in a game called Runescape. People was upset because they didn’t poll a pride event, when they even poll halloween events.

  • Pat Patrix

Trying to appease people who don’t buy comics is a stupid move that continuously fails.

  • CJ

I was waiting for the name…I thought it was going to be “The Carpet Muncher”

  • Cameron Tevis

Marvel’s VP of Sales David Gabriel can STFU – the plummeting sales are NOT indicative that the american people don’t want diversity idiot. What we don’t want is you taking characters that we already love like Thor, then decide white males are expendable and turn him into a woman just for the sake of diversity.

Female Thor, black Spiderman, black Captain America while making the blonde blue eyed Captain America evil. You literally created an arc that was White (Captain) America vs. Black (Captain) America. A new black female Iron Man. Deciding your white male characters are expendable doesn’t fix diversity issues at all. It simply perpetuates sexism and racism by refocusing the target.

Typical liberal myopic reactive thinking. BUT at least this character is new. Now the marketplace will determine if she stays around. But know your fanbase Marvel and stop crapping on them

  • Marvel is dying

  • mike

As long as they keep putting out Box Office hits they’ll be able to lose money with comics!
That might be the lamest add for a super hero ever!

  • Sailor_Sega

I don’t understand why Marvel Comics insist on pandering to S.J.W.s when S.J.W.s don’t buy comics.

  • CaptainWhitebread

The character of America Chavez has been around for several years. It’s only now that she has her own book that they’ve doubled down on the SJW nonsense. I read the first issue and when I got to “Sotomayor University”, I stopped. I won’t read anything that assumes I’m the villain.
