The mayor of Chevigny-Saint-Sauveur has announced his intention to ban alternative meals that do not contain pork in schools in a hope to promote secularism.

L’Express reports that mayor Michel Rotger, who is a member of the Republican party in France, said the move would not only promote secularism but also save the government money as alternative meals lead to a lot of wastage.

“We are putting an operation in place so the children eat everything and their diets are balanced. There is too much waste so we will teach them to eat meat, be it poultry or pork,” said the mayor.

A letter was sent to parents of the children that attend schools in the town (of which the population is roughly 10,000) to inform them of the proposal. The letter states that menus with pork products included would promote “ideas of secularism” and the only people who may opt out are those with medical allergies.

Mmmmmm

“Today, we are talking about secularism in a generally anti-Muslim way,” argued Paul Garrigue who is president of a group that contains associations such as Amnesty International and the League of Human Rights according to L’Express.

“We see secularism as a tool of tolerance and living together and not exclusion,” he said, adding that pupils that refuse to eat pork should feel “at ease.”

According to L’Express Rotger is following the recommendations of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) which, in 2015, called for elected officials to promote values of secularism and dismiss “denominational menus.”

According to Breitbart, the issue of pork in schools has been debated for years in France and other European countries. French mayor of Sargé-lès-Le-Mans said in 2014 that menus in schools should feature “pork or nothing.”

On the other side of the debate, Breitbart reports that a school in Islington, UK, has banned pork from its lunch menu since 2011.

The ban was initiated due to the large Muslim population in the area but came under fire in 2015 when critics said students should have a choice.

Anyone who rejects the divine nature of bacon is guilty of culinary heresy most foul.

Purge the Apastates! Down with the wheat grass witches! War upon the vegan wankers!

    Damn it. Now I’m hungry.

  • ssgtnelson

DAMMIT MILO! Now I’m starving… and really want bacon!

  • Julia D. Plorable

Hm…. they sure will offer traditional non-pork meals (chicken etc), no?
Because there are actual medical conditions where you just can’t eat pork without getting into real trouble.

    • Pat Patrix

It said chicken as well in the article.

    • Dang It Bobby

The article stated that people with medical allergies may opt out.

      • Julia D. Plorable

(Just for the record. I do have some food allergies and won’t EVER touch anything I haven’t prepared myself, or as my grandma once put it “You’re invtited. Bring whatever you like.”)
That said…. my point actually was that it would amount to an insane effort to require actual medical certificates for opting out if there’s a mandatory fee for these meals. What if one simply doesn’t like eating pork with no ideological or medical “justification”?
IF they DO offer non-pork meals and the ban – up until now – was simply because random muslim might have gotten offended if their meals came from the same kitchen that also happen to serve pork … then, well, screw those and my question is moot.

Same thing I have to say when this appeared on Breitbart: I dislike the fanatical secularism that exists in France. France should be a catholic country and return to her place as the first daughter of the church.

Oh stop. Step away from the Tardis.

If a slice of bacon and a muslim was drowning, I would save the bacon.

    • Pat Patrix

      …bacon can drown?

  • Steffy93

If kids ate everything adults put on the menu, there would be broccoli shortages.
Kids eat what they want to eat.

    • Pat Patrix

How does that logic make sense to you? It’s not like that uneaten broccoli goes back into rotation, it gets thrown away. If the broccoli is already there clearly there’s not a shortage…

      • Steffy93

The kitchen staff knows that few kids will eat stuff they dislike so they prepare much less.

        • Pat Patrix

How would that ever equal a broccoli shortage? Once again that makes no sense.

          • Steffy93

            You are missing something.

          • Pat Patrix

No, your point was just stupid.

  • EyeVey

Bacon is sacred. The kids’ll love it. ????????????????
