Democratic Rep. Jackie Speier has become the subject of much mockery after likening Putin to a tarantula and claiming he spun “a web” and trapped people like Roger Stone.
Speier made her bizarre comments during today’s congressional hearing concerning Russia’s alleged involvement in the 2016 U.S. election.
According to Mediaite, Speier declared that Putin’s supposed interference was “an act of war – an act of hybrid warfare,” adding, “and I think that’s why the American people should be concerned about it.”
Speier went on to say, “in terms of trying to understand this, I think of a spider web with a tarantula in the middle. The tarantula, in my view, is Vladimir Putin – who is entrapping many people to do his bidding and to engage with him.”
Those entrapped people, Speier argues, include Roger Stone, Wilbur Ross, and Rex Tillerson.
The problem? Tarantulas don’t actually catch prey using webs – a fact Twitter users were very quick to point out.

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) says purported Russian interference was an "act of war," and likens Putin to a tarantula (???)

Jackie Speier just compared Putin to a tarantula in a web.
-Tarantulas do not spin webs for prey
-Tarantulas do not live in Russia

Congresswoman Jackie Speier talks about Russian hacking as a "tarantula web".
Tarantulas don't spin webs (at least for catching prey).

Anyone see congresswoman Jackie speier's tarantula analogy? Too bad tarantulas don't produce silk, what an idiot.

Why would anyone want @RepSpeier to represent them? She thinks tarantulas spin webs! She's an idiot.
